# Hyaluronic Acid
## Hyaluronic Acid helps the skin retain moisture.
[Hyaluronic Acid](https://rejuvaskin.com/blogs/ingredients/ingredient-spotlight-hyaluronic-acid) (or Sodium Hyaluronate) helps the skin retain moisture, giving it the ability to reduce the occurrence of skin irritation, as well as quench & soothe dry skin.
One of the many impediments to healthy skin is a lack of moisture. Dehydrated skin loses firmness and becomes less pliable. Ultimately, that means more fine lines and wrinkles. As we age, we lose the ability to produce hyaluronic acid, our best defense for skin dehydration.
Enter sodium hyaluronate. When applied topically to the skin, this ingredient helps rehydrate the skin. Since it can hold about a thousand times its own weight in water **sodium hyaluronate retains moisture at an incredible rate**. Well-hydrated skin appears firmer, brighter, and younger. Sodium hyaluronate helps bring back glowing skin lost in the battle of hydration. One side effect of well-hydrated skin is an increased tolerance of sun exposure and other negative environmental influences. Who knew side effects could be a good thing?
